Between 2012 and 2019, DFIs contributed to the creation of 38 million jobs in emerging markets. DFIs also helped to finance more than 2 million SMEs, providing them with the resources they need to grow and create jobs.
They have helped to increase access to financial services for more than 50 million people in Africa alone, and have also helped to create new business opportunities, stimulate innovation and drive economic growth. For every $1 invested by DFIs, there is a $4.70 increase in GDP.
DFIs have played a significant role in promoting gender inclusion. Between 2014 and 2019, DFIs invested $21 billion in projects that aimed to promote gender equality and empower women. They have also provided financing and technical assistance to women-led businesses, helping to promote gender equality and create new economic opportunities.
By providing financing and technical assistance to developing countries, DFIs have helped to promote sustainable development and build more inclusive and resilient economies.
